In gathering information to write this post, I was shocked to discover that anyone can legally present themselves as a personal property appraiser. There is no governmental license, proof of knowledge, or certification required to appraise personal property.

For each item covered, you would normally have to provide your agent with a photograph, a copy of the original purchase receipt, and sometimes an appraisal if you want to list the item for more than was originally paid. The Scheduled Form – The values on the schedule attached to the policy are the agreed values for coverage under the policy.
