With the museum’s professional leadership and exhibit design, consultant expertise, and use of trained volunteer research teams, this public history project offered a unique opportunity to conduct original research to establish previously undocumented local Black history and create a traveling exhibit to share the information with the public.
Ten years later MCHS bought the two buildings adjacent to the existing Museum, once again through fundraising and grant sourcing, increasing available space 100 percent, making possible a community room and an award-winning research library.
