Officially, a written appraisal is not required for items valued at below $5,000 and are required for items valued at above $20,000. Between these two amounts, appraisals are "recommended." I would argue that an appraisal is highly desirable for anything over $500. Avoiding bias.

In January, I updated my website to provide an easier way for customers to request online appraisals. In February, I took my 7-hour refresher course on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice ( USPAP ). Also in February, I appraised a collection of guitars for purposes of buying insurance.
