A Note from the Co-Editor: As an appraiser, I frequently invite new clients to send me pictures of their items so I can review them in advance and better assist with designing an appraisal scope of work that is most appropriate to their needs. The word Wunderkammer (note the emphasis of "wonder") was used in 16th century Europe to refer to a large piece of furniture that was a quite literal cabinet of curiosities housing a collector's treasures, and many art historians consider the Wunderkammer a precursor to modern museums.

A number of months ago, Antiques Roadshow broadcast one of their "vintage" shows, this one showing appraisals from Birmingham in 1999. That was from only the third year of the show, the second year in which I appeared as a print and map appraiser. By far most of the new values were below the original appraisals.
