In ancient India, it was called “ ratnaraj ,” the “king of precious stones.” They believed rubies symbolized the sun and provided energy and vitality to those who wore it.

Pulling up to the auction site in Greenville, PA, I was a little discouraged that I had made the drive. The porch was crumbling on the old house, the front entrance was taped over, the paint was peeling, and bushes were grown up all around it. It looked like one of those houses you see on the edge of a field, seemingly abandoned and likely filled with rat turds and cobwebs.

While New Englanders enjoy a culturally rich region, there are always precious few opportunities for local artists to see their work exhibited in high quality spaces. Nearby Gallery in Newton, Massachusetts, was founded during the pandemic to share the work of emerging and mid-career art-makers in their community. On view through July 13, 2022, the gallery’s current exhibition Into the Ether is the product of an open curatorial call hosted by the space.

Selling antique firearms is more complicated than most other categories of antiques because you have to take federal and state laws into account both for the actual sale and for shipping considerations. However, you may be surprised to learn that the regulations for buying and selling antique firearms online are not nearly as stringent as the regulations for buying and selling modern firearms.

‘The Heron’ by William State Murray, 1928. Courtesy of Kettle’s Yard. If you’ve heard the name William Staite Murray, you probably know it for art pottery. And I mean ART pottery.
